About Us

Once upon a time I had a dream to 'down-shift' to the beautiful rolling hills of the Natal Midlands. Having been familiar with this area for many years, I longed for a place to remind me of my native Nottingham, England.
I'd eaten at a French Restaurant years ago, which I knew was somewhere in this area, but where? And then, after reading an article about the centenary of Fort Nottingham, named after the Sherwood Foresters, from Nottingham, England, I mentioned to my husband that if and when we find this place, and it happens that there are houses there, this is where I would like our family to live.
On opening my new copy of Country Life magazine a few days later, I found not one, but two houses for sale in Fort Nottingham. We were heading in the direction of the Midlands the very next day and, amazingly, discovered that one of these homes, used to be the French restaurant 'Cafe le Fort' .... I'd found our home, but it took four tries before this place eventually became ours. It seemed only natural to move my business to this historical and picturesque Hamlet which I did in May 2011, from Nottingham Road.

Simply Sam Trading  opened its doors in 2006 in the centre of Nottingham Road and relocated in May 2011 to the picturesque and historical Hamlet of Fort Nottingham C1890's

The showroom is situated in a huge old barn, on the same premises as the well known Fort Nottingham Museum, famous for its annual 'Highland Games', founded by the late David Fox.

Besides Antique and Vintage items we also source beautiful and unusual South African Gift items, many from local 'job creation' projects. Our aim is for these items to be purchased online, be beautifully gift wrapped, and then sent to that special person of your choice in South Africa and even further afield.
If you are an international vendor sourcing stock for your own shop, enquire here about our goods
