Guidelines for cleaning/sanitizing ACCUSPLIT pedometers

Guidelines for cleaning/sanitizing ACCUSPLIT pedometers:

1. Remember that the cases are not water resistant. Care must be taken to ensure that liquid does not get inside the case when cleaning, to avoid potential damage to the circuit or battery.

2. To avoid getting liquids inside the case, wipe down the case with a damp cloth or paper towel, rather than spraying directly with cleaning products or water.

3. Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, soap and water, and common cleaners such as Formula 409 / Fantastic / Windex are all OK to use.

4. Do NOT use petroleum-based oils or solvents (such as nail polish remover), as these will damage the case.

5. If liquid does get inside the pedometer, the unit will often be salvagable if prompt action is taken. Remove the faceplate by inserting a coin into the slot at bottom of case. Remove the battery and dry it off. Blot very gently with a paper towel or tissue to get any remaining water out of the case. Allow to dry for several hours, out of direct sunlight. Then, replace the battery and press the faceplate back into place. Press the reset button to restore power. If unit fails to power up, the battery has probably been depleted (due to shorting) - replace it with new battery of same type.
