We are frequently asked which is the better spray pattern, a cone or a stream. Given that the number one objective is to stop an aggressive subject the answer would have to be cone in most situations. Advantages of the CONE SPRAY include:
A wider spray pattern with finer spray particles making it easier to hit the target, especially in a sudden attack when the target is moving quickly. A more atomized spray that covers a larger area and has a more instantaneous effect. A far greater effect on the respiratory system, especially important with highly motivated or drug impaired subjects who may be resistant to pain. Will not splash back onto the user when sprayed at close proximity Advantages of a STREAM SPRAY include:
Is less affected by the wind thereby resulting in less “blow back” should the user have to spray into the wind Can spray further than the cone spray. (However, the vast majority of sprays are in the 2-6 foot range.) Other Considerations:
During the past five years TigerLight has noticed a dramatic shift away from the stream spray to the cone spray due to increased effectiveness of the cone spray. Due to the TigerLight already being in the hand of the user, as opposed to having to retrieve it from a belt, the TigerLight® is used in far more situations than ordinary pepper spray is. These are sudden attack situations wherein the user would have had to go hand-to-hand with the attacker. In these close proximity sudden attacks the TigerLight’s performance is exceptional. The attacker does not realize he is going to be sprayed. Therefore, he is not able to shield his face, turn away, close his eyes or hold his breath. Consequently, the spray has a much more powerful effect, especially on the respiratory system. In many cases, the effect on the respiratory system is the only thing that stops the attack. This is why the TigerLight® has a 96% stop rate (compliance rate. See LASD Study) which is far above that of normal pepper sprays in a can. MESSAGE TO NON LAW ENFORCEMENT PURCHASERS: What to do if you have to protect yourself or someone else by spraying an attacker.
- Spray them in the face for one half to one second
- Get out of the line of attack (move to either side) immediately, run to safety and call the police.
- DO NOT try to apprehend the subject or engage in physical contact.
