Hypnosis
Q: I use a number of self-help and learning hypnosis mp3 files. But, I am not satisfied with the level of trance I enter - can this product help me if I Listen to my MP3s and only use the 'light'? Will the light alone help me gain a deeper level of trance and enhanced learning?
A: The lights are the most important entrainment component; sound plays a relatively minor role due to the relatively small brain volume affected compared to visual processing.
It is very common that people used the lights plus self-hypnosis tapes/cds... in fact, the origin of modern L&S machines dates back to the 1950s, when strobe lights were used by hypnotherapists to help induce a light trance state.
Selecting programs which start in roughly the low beta and terminate in the theta range would be ideal, such as the "learning" programs included in Proteus (not sure what machine you have/considering buying).
If you're having trouble getting into a trance state, which is not uncommon when people start out, try working with the machine alone for a few sessions, without the distraction of the self-hypnosis material. This will help you get used to the process and the machine, before adding content... sort of like tuning into a carrier wave before you can hear a radio station.
