Scepter - The Next Generation of Automatic Cell
Counting
Abstract:
Counting cells is often
a necessary but tedious step for in vitro cell culture.
Accurate, consistent, and fast cell counts are important for
monitoring cell health and proliferation rate, assessing
transfection or infection, seeding cells for subsequent experiments,
and preparing for cell-based assays. Whilst most of the
researchers count cells using inexpensive hemocytometer, it is
laborious and is subjected to user bias and misuse, which results
in inaccurate counts.
Scepter Cell Counter is
the first automated handheld device that combines automation and
accuracy for cell counting. The device is a miniaturized Coulter
Counter that employs accuracy of the Coulter principle of
impedance-based particle detection. The precision-made sensors are
engineered with a microfabricated, cell sensing zone that enables
cell discrimination by cell size and cell volume at a sub-micron and
sub-picoliter
resolution,
respectively.
