Guide and Reference Photographs for Steel Surfaces Prepared by Dry Abrasive Blast Cleaning

SSPC's most widely used visual reference features over 50 full-color photos of previously coated and uncoated, rusted steel surfaces before and after dry abrasive blast cleaning. Cleanliness requirements for conditions depicted are defined by the SSPC surface preparation specifications for white metal (SP 5), near-white (SP 10), commercial (SP 6), industrial (SP 14), and brush-off (SP 7) blast finishes. Appendix photographs show variations in white metal surfaces caused by different metallic and non-metallic abrasives, profile depth, angle of view, and lighting. SSPC's popular rust standard features a series of 27 full color images and 27 black and white diagrams representing various degrees of spot, general, and pinpoint rusting on painted steel surfaces. Text and tables provide a guide to the use of the reference photographs; a scale and description of standard rust grades; a comparison of SSPC, ASTM, ISO, and other rust grade scales; and other useful information.

SSPC-VIS 3

Contains a series of 43 full-color reference photographs to be used as a supplement to the SSPC standards for hand and power tool cleaned steel. Shows a total of seven different steel surfaces (four uncoated and three previously coated) before and after hand tool cleaning (SP 2), power tool cleaning with power wire brushes and sanding discs (SP 3), power tool cleaning to bare metal (SP 11), and commercial grade power tool cleaning (SP 15). Also contains photos of SP 11 surfaces with a restored profile, a revised guide to the use of reference photographs, a new table of standards and conditions depicted, and additional explanatory notes.

Shows a total of six different steel surfaces (two uncoated and four previously coated) before and after waterjetting. Photographs illustrate four separate degrees of cleaning (WJ 1, WJ 2, WJ 3, and WJ 4) for each initial condition, with additional photos that depict the appearance light, moderate, and heavy flash rust after cleaning. Also contains a written guide to the use of reference photographs and additional explanatory notes. Cleanliness requirements for conditions depicted are defined by the joint SSPC/NACE surface preparation specification for high- and ultrahigh-pressure water jetting (SP 12/NACE 5).

Shows two uncoated, rusted steel surfaces (Conditions C and D) before and after wet abrasive blast cleaning. Photographs illustrate two degrees of cleaning (WAB 6 and WAB 10) for each initial condition, with additional photos that depict the appearance of light, moderate, and heavy flash rust after cleaning. Also contains a written guide to the use of reference photographs and additional explanatory notes. Cleanliness requirements for conditions depicted are defined by the joint SSPC/NACE surface preparation specifications for commercial (SP 6/NACE 3) and near-white blast cleaning (SP 10/NACE 2). PATH 1 Six-Day Training and Certification Option The objective of this course is to thoroughly train individuals in the proper methods of inspecting surface preparation and installation of industrial protective coatings on concrete industrial structures and facilities The certification potion of this program will certify concrete coating inspectors in correctly observing, assessing, documenting, and reporting all relevant job data as determined by the specification and referenced documents. Students completing the technician-level (first four days only) would be qualified to work under the guidance of a certified concrete coating inspector. Although smaller in size and less detailed than The Inspection of Coatings and Linings, this useful, handy book still offers a solid overview of basic inspection practice in a concise "question-and-answer" format. Discusses basic coatings technology, the role of the coating inspector, coating specifications, and supplier procedures. Describes various procedures and equipment for monitoring, testing, measurement, and inspection. Suitable as both a learning tool for beginners and as a portable field reference for the more experienced inspector.

PCS Certification Exam

The Protective Coatings Specialist certification program (PCS) identifies and awards recognition to individuals who have in-depth knowledge in the principles and practices of industrial coatings technology. Certification attests to the professional credibility of the coatings practitioner and raises the standards of the protective coatings profession. • Candidates must provide a formal application and three professional references to SSPC • SSPC recommends that candidates take the C1 and C-2 Courses before sitting for the PCS Exam • Candidates should read entire application for complete prerequisite details Special Note: Candidates must complete a comprehensive multiple choice and essay question exam and pass with a 70% or better. Specifying and Project Management (C-2)

Level: Advanced This course is designed to provide those who understand coating fundamentals with an overview of the principles of planning, awarding, and monitoring the quality of new construction or maintenance painting projects. After completing this training program, students will be familiar with tools to develop effective coating projects and play a more active role in managing painting projects to successful completion. 5 Days/40 Hours, Includes Course Exam. Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Important Information: In order to get the most value from the C2 course, you must have a basic understanding of the topics covered in course C1, Fundamentals of Protective Coatings. C2 fulfills part of your training requirement for the SSPC Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS) Certification and prepares you for the challenging Protective Coatings Specialist Exam. All PCS candidates that do not have 15 years of experience must take and pass the C1 exam and C2 class before sitting for the PCS Exam. There is no approved alternative training accepted.
