Cynthia Wood’s first experience with quilting was by the side of her caregiver when Cynthia was ten-years-old. This woman was a quilter and she encouraged her daughters and Cynthia to put their tiny stitches among hers. A drafter by trade, Cynthia uses her skills to enhance her natural ability to create patterns and designs like her grandmothers before her. She creates her quilts as a nod to the past, with the desire of preserving the hand-working skills of quilting that may vanish all too quickly. Cynthia also crochets, embroideries, needlepoints, and is experimenting with needle tatting.
Cynthia uses sturdy, quality fabrics that will stand up to continued use and time. While many of her patterns are historically accurate, she likes to rearrange them to create modern interpretations. Star patterns are a recurring theme and red is her favorite color. Yet, she uses her detailed oriented eyes to mix patterns and colors from what is readily available and most on hand. Cynthia uses the wooden quilting hoop from her earliest years in conjunction with a PVC pipe quilting frame. She quilts both along the seams and in overall patterns.
