Frequently Asked Questions
Edward Pryce
silhouette.bmp Edward Pryce has been an artist since he was nine-years-old. Although he was praised and encouraged by an art teacher at his Los Angeles, California school, it would be many years before Edward would be known to the public as an artist. With advanced degrees in Landscape Architecture, he became Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at Tuskegee University. Here, he used the school’s machine shop tools and abandoned wood to begin his life as a sculpture. Edward attributes his “think large” attitude to his training in landscape design. Edward uses his artwork to promote the history and heritage of his African and Egyptian ancestors. He wants the youth of today to find themselves in artwork that represents their ancient past.

Edward’s first work with copper began by making woodcuts. Copper sheets were pressed into the woodcuts to form a raised pattern. Today, he creates his copper repoussé pieces by first making a sketch on Mylar, then using a stylus to trace the lines onto copper. The copper is turned over and pressed to create the three-dimensional appearance of low relief.

Edward’s art is also on exhibit at the Southern Roots Gallery, Birmingham, and as murals at Tuskegee University and Tuskegee High School.
