Amanda and Carole Smith utilize their close family relationship to produce distinctive items for mothers and children. Carol is Amanda’s mother-in-law and relishes these shared activities for cementing special family bonds. The two women work together and in each other’s homes to create treasured keepsakes that reflect family and tradition.
Amanda is a trained urban forester with a landscape design background. Her engineering minded abilities enable her to create her own patterns for her diaper bags and purses while incorporating unusual pockets for everyday items. Inspired by a fellow traveler in the Bahamas, Amanda makes her Doo Dobber bracelets from a creative “bead”.
Carole learned at a very early age to crochet like her mother and grandmother. Her crochet edged receiving blankets are a family tradition that her grandmother began as serviceable gifts for the family’s new mothers. Using a shell stitch, Carole crochets two rows of stitches around cotton flannel. This symmetrical work greatly influences the designs of her jewelry.
Thread Bear Designs are also available at Puppy Dog Tails, Demopolis.
