The mission schools and churches in Wilcox County, Alabama were established by the Freedmen's Board of the United Presbyterian Church of North America, Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The goals of the missions were: to provide education and bible training; to teach moral displine and character; and to encourage students through the teaching of academics, arts and trades to become productive citizens.This book was written with the following purposes in mind: To provide information to generations who are inheritors through parents, grandparents, and others of the legacy of the mission schools and churches; to show that the dedication of faithful workers became a stepping stone for many thousands of black boys and girls to a better life; to encourage people to have a greater appreciation for little things in life; to teach young people that perseverance, knowledge, dedication and Christianity which were cornerstones for success in the lives of thier ancestors, can still be avenues of success for them.The Author of this book is Jeannette Steele McCall.
