For over 20 years, Effective Microorganisms™ has been used in agricultural applications. Users have documented the benefits on 6 continents, demonstrating the EM•1® Microbial Inoculant can work in all soil types, all farming systems, and all climates on Earth. Today, EM•1® Microbial Inoculant is manufactured in 54 countries for a variety of applications. We have designed an easy reference label for the farmer. The dosage rates are guidelines to be used as a starting point. Each system will have a slightly different application rate. We recommend to the farmer to experiment to find what works best for them and gets them the results they are looking for.
Dr. Higa pioneered the methodology of repeated applications of a microbial inoculant in farming systems. The USDA learned of EM•1® in the early 1990’s and experimented with it finding many beneficial effects for cropping systems.
EM•1® Microbial Inoculant is most effective when applied either early mornings or late evening. The key to success with Effective Microorganisms™ is to apply lots of organic matter with it to provide a home and food for the microorganisms. Conventional farmers can use EM•1® Microbial Inoculant as well as long as they do not apply synthetic chemicals at the same time they apply EM•1® Microbial Inoculant.
Benefits of EM•1® Microbial Inoculant : • Promotes soil aggregate formation and soil compaction resistance. • Improves seed germination and root development. • Increases nutrient availability. • Improves crop quality: size, color, and shelf life. • Helps improve soil structure and porosity. • Maximizes conversion of organic matter into soil humus. • Increases beneficial native microbial populations.
Uses: For all horticultural applications.
Directions: Apply EM•1® Agricultural Microbial Inoculant through an irrigation system, boom sprayer, backpack sprayer, fan sprayer, hand pump sprayer, or an electrostatic sprayer. EM•1® Agricultural Microbial Inoculant can be applied once a week during periods of extreme drought or rain and once a month for maintenance.
The general goal of first-year applications is to apply 40 gallons of Activated EM•1® per acre of property. A typical program of 5 gallons per acre, applied 8 times per year will achieve this. Dilution rates vary according to plant time, timing, plant age, and method of application.
