1v1 Soccer awarded Bell Community Sports Fund for anti-obesity program in schools

Overview of $25,000 Bell Community Sport Fund Grant awarded to 1v1 Soccer:

The grant will provide at-risk youth with access to free soccer skill development programs.The 1v1 Soccer in the Schools Program will use soccer’s universal appeal to engage young people in sport activities that will have lifelong benefits to their health and education. The objective is to provide free skill development programs (sport/non-sport activities) to at risk children aged eight to twelve years of age living in economically disadvantaged communities.  

 

 

The Soccer in Schools Program will be twenty weeks of soccer training modules from November to June that places a strong emphasis on participation in sport and developing healthy lifestyles. The program will be offered during in-school and after schools hours in five targeted Hamilton elementary schools with the highest rates of poverty.  Workshop classroom sessions will also be offered to increase awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The program will be targeted at grade four to grade eight students. A mixture of technical skills sessions, small-sided games and mini tournaments will be offered with prizes and awards given out to the participants
