freepdfsmall.jpg Name:  Benchmarking for Results, North Carolina Benchmarking Project, December 2005. View online.
The North Carolina Benchmarking Project is a regional benchmarking initiative that compares performance statistics and cost data across ten service areas: residential refuse collection household recycling, yard wate/leaf collection, police services, emergency communications, asphalt maintenance and repair, fire services, building inspections, fleet maintenance, and human resources. This report presents information gathered by School of Government project staff members from each participating municipality involved in the project on how the benchmarking data are used for improving service efficiency and effectiveness. It contains evidence that participating units have used the comparative statistics to support a variety of service delivery decisions. The report is designed so that new case studies can be added as municipalities continue to use the benchmarking information for service improvement.
