This edition updates, revises, and expands the eighth edition, published in 2000, and its related supplements. A guide to the powers and duties of registers of deeds, the book addresses the recording and indexing of real and personal property records, the recording of plats, the issuance of marriage licenses, and the management of other records for which registers are responsible. It also discusses the operation of the register’s office and its role in real estate transactions.

A 2008 Supplement discusses relevant legislation passed by the 2008 session of the North Carolina General Assembly.
