October 1, 2005 Loudon Results: Novice Ultralight Superbike 4th My first road race came at the end of the 2005 season, immediately following the tragic death of racer Steve Almeida on the start of the Novice Middleweight SuperSport race. The incident closed down the track for several hours. When racing resumed I made the decision to continue with my quest to become a roadracer at age 48. I was gridded in the last position of the last row because I registered late. I finished 4th place. First race, first trophy. And the realization that I certainly am not racing and risking my life for a piece of wood with a metal plaque on it. It's about something else.
