Several years ago we introduced Piezography K7 inks as a third-generation product that presented a novel manner in which pigment could be ground to nano-measurements and then treated in a proprietary way to prevent clogging. That same technology is now available in a color formula we designed for EPSON® Ultrachrome K3 printers and that we are announcing today.

This new ink is called ConeColor and its available in one-liter bottles along with a high quality set of ABS plastic refillable 220ml carts for EPSON 4800, 7800 and 9800 printers. The ink set and refill carts allow you to save 65% and more in your current ink costs. But using one set of carts for the life of your printer prevents throwing away plastic carts (containing trace inks) into your local landfill. Even more important, is that you help reduce the amount of harmful carcinogens which are necessary in the manufacture of semi-conductor chips which are required on all EPSON K3 printer carts. While we do not have a CIS or bulk ink system for the EPSON 2400 printer, there are many suppliers who do. You can use this same ink in your EPSON 2400 printer if you can provide your own CIS system.

ConeColor is a carefully color managed ink set that has been purposely matched to the EPSON K3 inks in such a way that you can use your existing color workflow. We did not adapt a previous generation of color inks to fit into the new K3 scheme. Rather, we developed our inks from the ground up, and succeeded in developing a replicating color gamut so you do not have to invest in color management software and hardware. If you currently use the EPSON driver with its pull down menus or/and ICC profiles, you can continue to use that same workflow. If you invested in professional quality ICC profiles, you can actually use them with ConeColor inks too. The point is that you do not need to do anything different in order to experience the same color qualities you were. As an example, we have integrated this ink formula into the EPSON 4800 and 9800 printers at Cone Editions Press using both EPSON driver and the professional StudioPrint RIP with ColorGPS. We have pretty high-standards and this formula has met them.

The carts are easy to use and made of high-quality, clear ABS plastic. This is not the translucent type of plastic which is flexible and makes it often difficult for the printer to recognize the ink memory chip. Rather than use inexpensive materials, we had our carts made at a much higher standard so you can experience trouble-free operation with them. Our inks will not damage your printer, nor will our carts. Incidentally, ConeColor is made of 100% pigment and only pigment. No dyes here! You can expect the same industry-leading fade resistance as we earned with Piezography K7 inks. Replicating K3's intense color gamut without trace-dye is an achievement we are proud of. Our gloss level is great.

ConeColor is an ink set designed for those who are concerned about cost and the environment. Its not a complicated procedure to change over your inks. A simple INIT fill will remove the EPSON inks from your printer and fill it fresh with ConeColor inks. The use of flush cartridges is unnecessary.

The cost of ConeColor inks is only .18¢ per ml compared to EPSON's .50¢ per ml. The savings to the environment depends upon how many people begin to be conscious about throwing away their pre-filled EPSON K3 carts. We envision that for every set of bottles you use, there will be 40 less cartridges thrown away in your local landfill. If the average user can prevent throwing away 100 carts a year, we'll be quite pleased by our idea to only offer our inks as a eco-friendly solution.
