My workshops focus on inkjet

Of course they do! That is what it is all about. The computer images are virtual and transient.

Most of the people who attend my workshops have complained that so little time has been spent on printing technique and workflow at the other workshops they have taken across the USA. Probably this is due to the fact that other print studios are not teaching workshops. Photoshop can be taught by anyone adept at Photoshop. But how it is taught in a printmaking context requires true experience. Lots of it. Lots of problem solving. And in my case, lots of true development of not only inks, paper, and software, but also methodology and workflows. I pride myself in knowing that there are ample discussions on the internet between the famous experts who claim that they have tried to explain Jon Cone, or that Jon Cone does his color management wrong.... Great! The authors of these books make more students for me than anyone else! Yes I do my color management workflow differently. But it works, and its intuitive, and it gives visually accurate results both in the process and in the results.

Armchair quarterbacking is definitely not what I am about. And I will be the first to learn a new trick! I love the fact that there is always more than one way to accomplish the same goal. But usually there is a simple way to acheive the highest standards - and I am all about that! :)

Which way to turn

I have developed two workshops which I think are really fabulous. The Complete Digital Workflow was developed for people who already have an inkling and a clue to how sytems work. They are not getting the results they want. But they know their way around Photoshop at least a little, may have calibrated their monitors, or experimented with profiles. But for whatever reasons they simply are not getting the results they expected.

Digital Printmaking for Beginners and Novices was designed for the artist or photographer just coming to Photoshop and or inkjet printing. This class covers real basic issues, but within an inkjet printing context. Both of the workshops turn out competent printers able to print what they see on their monitors and learning Photoshop skills adequate for their level and needs. Beginners opt to return to the Complete Digital Workflow - and graduates of the Complete Digital Workflow opt to return for the Digital Workflow Master Class.

In any event, my workshops take place in my own studio. Its a working studio for sure. Lots of wide format printers, IRIS printers, even a Hell drum scanner and a 40x60 large format fine art scanner. But there is also a permanent classroom with eight computers, eight desktop printers, and networked EPSON 4000, 4800, and 7600 printers using color pigment inks as well as Piezography inks. When I say these are hands-on workshops I mean that in every sense. Lots of instructor time, lots of work time, lots of print time. And lots of experimenting with the exercises that are taught.
