The Complete Digital Workflow
$1,500 - 4 day course – Tuesday through Friday. Classes are 9a – 5p at Cone Editions Studio in East Topsham, VT – limited to a maximum of 8 and a minimum of 4. Workshop takes place 9am - 5pm each day at Cone Editions Press. Each attendee has their own computer workstation with a connected PiezographyBW EPSON 1280 printer. Each workstation is networked to an EPSON 4000 with color inks, an EPSON 7600 with MediaStreet color pigment inks, and 4 large format EPSON printers with the four hues of PiezoTone inks. There are several scanners for attendee use, but most attendees prefer to contract the studio prior to their attendence to have Cone Editions scan their originals on the Hell 3400 drum scanner (at additional costs). There are many different papers to choose to print from Hahnemuhle, Bradford Papers, Legion Papers and others.

The Complete Digital Workflow is our most popular workshop. It is in response to the new wave of equipment and materials that manufacturers are finally beginning to develop for photographers. It is in response to the new wave of photographers gone digital. It is in response to those who are considering a digital path. It is in response to artists who wish to create digital reproductions of their work using the same technology that photographers now use: the scanner, computer, and inkjet printer. It is designed to give a complete overview to those who seek info. It is designed to give a complete workflow to those pursuing the dream of replacing traditional materials with digital. It is designed to give professional skills to those who seek greater expertise. It is designed to provide an example to follow for those who seek to create high standard print-for-pay studios.

This intensive four-day course focuses on the technical aspects of the color-managed digital workflow. Participants will learn how to establish a color-managed environment and make prints that closely match the screen. We will then explore the entire digital workflow from capture to print. Image editing techniques for tonal control, color correction, and the aesthetic interpretation of the image will be presented.

While most of the workshop participants are photographers, artists who wish to make reproductions of their two-dimensional artwork will also benefit.

Each workstation is equipped with a viewing booth, calibrated monitor and ink-jet printer. In addition, the studio hosts a number of large-format printers (including the Epson Stylus Pro 4000, 7600 and 9000) which are available to the participants. Both color and quad-tone black-and-white printers will be available.

Participants must have basic skills in PhotoShop, including the use of the Levels and Curves tools. Everyone is encouraged to bring printed samples of their work, a negative or slide that they would like to have scanned, and electronic copies of their images.
