Byki 4
I can't hear any sound!
If you cannot hear sound with your Transparent Language program, check the following:
Did you download a list from ListCentral at the BYKI More Free Lists page?
Not all of these cards have sound. Some of these are user-created lists and may not contain sound. If the button appears to be grayed out, there is no sound with this card.
Are you trying to play a flash card that came with your Languages of the World program?
Not all of these language cards have sound. If the button appears to be grayed out, there is no sound with this card.
Do other programs get sound?
Try using another program that plays sound to see if you can hear the sound from there. Check to make sure your speakers are turned on and/or the main volume in your
Volume Control
is not checked off as mute.
Do you have sound coming through speakers or headphones?
Make sure the correct jack is plugged in to the correct input. The microphone input on your machine is usually pink. Try another slot to see if this helps. If you have a volume control on your headphones, make sure this is turned up as well.
Was the list that you are using imported from another Transparent Language program, such as LanguageNow!?
Lists that you export from LanguageNow! that have the file extension '.uwl', will NOT include any sound.
If you are using BYKI, is the word or phrase you are trying to listen to something that you personally added to the BYKI vocabulary list?
BYKI will not create sound unless you specifically attached a sound file to it. BYKI is not designed to be able to read a word you create and automatically generate sound to it, like a voice translator. If you did attach a sound file, check that you selected the correct file and that it is in the correct format. It should have the extension .wav or .ogg (Ogg Vorbis). Try recording the file again and reattaching it to the word or phrase. NOTE: we recommend you record the sound or verify that the sound you use is in Mono.
There is also the possibility that you have two or more sound devices enabled on your computer, which can conflict with the sound in BYKI. Here's how to find out:
**WINDOWS**
Right click on My Computer on Desktop
Go to Manage
In the Computer Management window, go to Device Manager
Go to Sound Video and Game Controllers
You should have devices Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, Video Codecs. The other listing(s) are related to your sound device or sound card. Our software depends heavily on your onboard sound card. (
What is the name of my sound card?
). If there is any other sound device you have enabled and you aren't using it, disable it right click on it and select Disable. If you have something in the list called Unimodem Half Duplex, Disable it.
Restart the computer,
, run the program again and you should hear sound.
