2008 ProPeten Scholarship (Guatemala)
Who: Tri4Him-Austin Delta Team and ProPeten What: Scholarship Fundraiser Triathlon Where: Flores, Peten, Guatemala When: June 29, 2008 Why: To extend education and God's love to the Guatemalan children For most of us in the US, it is a given that our children will finish high school and beyond before having to enter the workforce or contribute to their family income. For most of the children in Guatemala, this is only a dream. Most of the children there enter the workforce at the age of 12 and do not have the chance to complete a high school education. ProPeten (www.propeten.org) of Guatemala is a local organization that realizes that education is the key to the success and future of their nation and has started a scholarship program, allowing children to complete secondary school and beyond. The triathletes of Tri4Him want to help! On June 29, several Tri4Him members are going to race in the jungles of Guatemala to raise funds and awareness for underprivileged children of Guatemala. We want your help! For a mere $100 per year, a student can continue their education for one full year. Each Tri4Him athlete has committed to pay their own expenses and additionally raise a minimum of $500 to contribute to the Propeten scholarship program. This money will allow a Guatemalan child to extend their education 5 years. In addition to competing in the 2008 Hombre Maya triathlon, we will have an opportunity to meet some of the children who will benefit from your generosity and establish a relationship for future mission work. By supporting the activities of the ProPeten and the efforts of Tri4Him, you can help give an underprivileged student hope for a better future. You will truly change their lives!
