Case Studies
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
MIT has over 10,000 undergraduate and
graduate students, and employs about 9,400. The mission of MIT is to advance knowledge and educate
students in science, technology, and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the nation and
the world in the 21st century.
Challenge
When the Whitehead Institute Center for
Genome Research became the MIT Center for Genome Research (MIT CGR) it was necessary to quickly interface
the center's OPM purchasing with MIT's SAP® system.
Solution
TECHcelerate was engaged to provide an OPM solution that would enable a workflow utilizing the two systems.
TECHcelerate placed technical consultants on-site to address the issues, and work with the SAP experts. Our
consultants studied the system, and developed an interface that allowed OPM to export purchasing information to,
and receive purchasing information from SAP. They integrated Oracle® Purchasing and Receiving with SAP on
Release 11i. The interface was tested and users were trained in time for the transition on Nov 1st. The
project was completed in 2 months.
Results
The integration of Oracle 11i with SAP enabled MIT and the Genome Cemter to realize the benefits of both systems
by integrating business processes, such as purchasing and accounts payable, and avoided duplications of effort. The
training of end users, including the transfer of technical aspects of the interface, allowed MIT and members of the
newly formed MIT CGR to use and manage the interface without assistance. Ed Grandbois quote: "We are very happy with
the way this entire project was handled. The skills, creativity, responsiveness, and dedication of your team were exemplary.
We could not have gotten the interface on line in the time required without you. I would not hesitate to recommend
TECHcelerate for future projects in Oracle."
